Sydney Platypus brings music alive in young hearts.
Sydney Platypus is a children’s book character and a performance based music program that introduces kindergarten through eighth graders to various music styles.
The Sydney Platypus program brings professional, dedicated Sonoma County musicians and bands to schools to present a variety of music –Classical, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Cajun Zydeco, and more– in a program that is engaging, entertaining, inspiring, and motivating.
Working musicians share what inspired them to learn and play music, and why they love it.
Sydney Platypus introduces students to:
- Different musical styles
- Sounds and uses of different instruments
- Call and response, and harmony singing
- Rhythm (counting 4/4 & 3/4 time) and rhythmic patterns
- And above all, the joy of music
We teach music…
Not because we expect you to major in music.
Not because we expect you to play or sing professionally.
Not only so you can relax.
Not only so you can have fun.
But..
So you will be human.
So you will recognize beauty.
So you will be sensitive.
So you will be closer to, an infinite beyond this world.
So you will have something to cling to.
So you will have more love, more compassion, more gentleness, more good, and in short, more life.
